About Alex's chosen non-profit:
One Tree Planted

By throwing this event, Melissa and I are inevitably encouraging greenhouse gas emissions. To counter this, I chose a tree planting charity. Trees remain the cheapest form of carbon capture to date not to mention their countless other biological benefits so what better way of offset our carbon!

Their visionWe want to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Together we can restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and make a positive social impact around the world.

Your donationWe plant one tree with every dollar donated. In order to maximize the impact of your donation, we will determine the most appropriate species to plant, based on the time of year. Some of the species we will plant include the Sugar Pine, California Redwood (known as the State Tree), Maple, Elderberry, Willow, Birch, Dogwood, Cedar, Giant Sequoia, and Walnut.

Carbon offsetsAt One Tree Planted, we define success as delivering multi-generational co-benefits — not just maximizing carbon yield. Because of this, our Nature-based solution projects generate long-term impacts that reach far beyond carbon sequestration — including restoring biodiversity, uplifting communities, building sustainable livelihoods, and other key co-benefits. These projects also offer direct carbon financing so that we can continue to scale and strengthen our planting partner relationships.

About Melissa's chosen non-profit: Transgender Law Center

TLC is California-based and is the largest national trans-led organization advocating for a world in which all people are free to define themselves and their futures. Grounded in legal expertise and committed to racial justice, TLC employs a variety of community-driven strategies to keep transgender and gender nonconforming people alive, thriving, and fighting for liberation.

Their mission: Transgender Law Center changes law, policy, and attitudes so that all people can live safely, authentically, and free from discrimination regardless of their gender identity or expression.

Melissa chose this charity because all people deserve to live life how they want to live, authentically and unapologetically. So much of our culture is defined by queer expression, history, music, lifestyle, clothing, dancing, etc. The more freedom LGBTQ+ people have, the more freedom we all have access to. We should recognize that fact, celebrate it and promote change.
